Abstract

The aim of the article is to present a historical outline of the use of artillery in the 20th century. The author indicates the main conditions and milestones of artillery development during this period. Then, the main properties, goals and conditions for the use of modern artillery were analyzed. In particular, progress in construction, challenges related to accuracy and efficiency, new techniques and tactics of artillery use, the importance of observations and back-up maneuvers were presented. These considerations were illustrated by the images of selected devices and the characteristics of selected historical events in which artillery played a significant role.
