The aim of the dissertation is to show the artistic profile of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, a painter, a poet and the founder of The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, with reference to his Anglo-Italian identity. The paper begins with the presentation of his childhood and youth as the times when he became interested in literature and art of the homeland that he never visited. It then analyzes Rossetti’s poetry as inspired by both English and Italian literatures. Furthermore, the author presents selected paintings coming from different periods of Rossetti’s life in the attempt to show him as an artist who belonged to two cultures. She suggests that the artist could never determine either Italian or English tradition as the only source of inspiration. The analysis leads to the conclusion that Rossetti’s “cross-cultural identity” gave foundation to his art and personality and made his works so remarkable.en
