Abstract

The study is an attempt to read Michael Ende’s children’s book The Night of Wishes: or The Satanarchaeolidealcohellish Notion Potion as a novel critical of certain changes taking place in the modern world. The paper examines such important problems of contemporary times defined by Ende as the temptation of instant success, unrestrained egoism, excessive consumerism, materialistic value orientation, and lack of concern for the environment. The paper also searches for some positive phenomena and human qualities promoted by Michael Ende in his literary work.
