The history of stylistics from Antiquity to the 21st century involves constant creation of new concepts. Progress requires familiarizing oneself with old concepts and using modern achievements of various studies about language in order to formulate new theories. The author describes one by one post-structural interests in language functioning, the study of text⁄ discourse, the theory of style and the development of the term text as connected with the evolution of the term style. According to the author, a text is not only a unique, individual communicative event, but also an element (and representative) of the organized social communicative practice.en
