Based on the author’s own field research, the following article endeavours to elaborate upon the intricacies of
organic speech disorder. The investigation involved fifty-two adult Polish native speakers who had been diagnosed
with the aforementioned ailment. Their speech samples, representing the outcome of typical tasks including:
repetition, reading, story-telling, guided interview and free interview, were organized into a corpus and analysed.
The sample consisted of 25,700 syllables.
The results revealed that, unlike in functional speech disorder, the development of organic speech disorder is
regular and predictable. In the case of the former, the intensity of the problem is determined mostly by affective
factors. Moreover, the intensity of OSD does not depend on any specific type of speech utterance. The impact of
one’s emotions is minute and decreases along with the development of the disorder.
