From 18th to 25th September 2011 Poland was for the second time the host of the 27th
Congress of the International Association of Bibliophiles. 134 book lovers and collectors
from 22 countries took part in this event. Two greatest Polish libraries – the National
Library (Warsaw) and the Jagiellonian Library (Cracow) were the joint hosts. Symposium
Cracoviense was responsible for non-merits-related issues (accommodation, gastronomy,
logistics, accompanying events).
Annual bibliophiles meeting, each time organized by a different country, are filled with
scientific sessions as well as sightseeing of the most important and the most valuable
historical library collections and archives of the given country. During their stay in Poland,
the participants visited – among other things – the Jagiellonian Library, the Wawel Castle,
the Bishop Erazm Ciołek Palace, the Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec, the Library of Jasna Góra
Monastery, the National Library and the University of Warsaw Library.
Report of the course of sessions presents the agenda of each day of the congress with the
special focus of the Cracow part in which the author of the report participated.
