Korczak (nie)czytany. O szkolnym odbiorze utworów Janusza Korczaka

Abstract

This article concerns Korczak’s works for children and attempts to examine them in the context of school education. It analyzes works that are present in modern textbooks for Polish language and culture education as well as two school obligatory readings: novels King Matt the First and Bankruptcy of Little Jack. These texts are especially interesting because of their rich axiological charge and aesthetic qualities. Unfortunately, examination of contemporary interpretations of these texts and their absence in Polish language and culture lessons are evidence that for the young generation they are too difficult, even archaic because of their language and outdated social contexts. Therefore, there is a need for new ideas how to use these texts for didactic purposes and how to motivate children to read the works of the “Old Doctor”.
