The purpose of this article is making the readers acquainted with the conception of psychomotor education,
finding its expression in numerous methods applied in Poland and in other countries alike.
This conception originated already as early as in ancient Greece, in which it was formulated in the
words kalos kagathos ("healthy soul in healthy body”). Currently, the term ’’psychomotor education” is
being interpreted as a science devoted to studying the use of motor exercises for the stimulation of various
psychomotor functions, including the development of personality in children, young people and adults (in
particular, those who are in geriatric wards) in order to stimulate and activate. In this approach, the unity
of psyche and motorics is emphasized. This article is a succinct characteristics of the development of this
conception in France and in Germany, and it also is a discussion of the approach of J.E. Kiphard, R. Zimmer,
J. and A. Majewski, as well as N. Kephart; as well as that, it draws attention to the merits of M. Frostig. In the
further part, the authoress discusses the most recent tests diagnosing the psychomotor development of a child
and also characterizes the personality traits which a psychomotor educator ought to be in the possession of.
