Zagadnienie realizmu magicznego w polskiej literaturze dla dzieci

Abstract

Rozprawa dotyczy problemu realizmu magicznego w polskiej literaturze dla dzieci, zagadnienia dotąd nie podejmowanego przez rodzimych literaturoznawców. Przedstawia źródła i dzieje nurtu zwanego realizmem magicznym w europejskiej i latynoamerykańskiej prozie XX wieku. Autorka zwraca uwagę na malarskie początki nurtu, trudności w zdefiniowaniu pojęcia realizm magiczny, związki z innymi nurtami artystycznymi, a także na istnienie wielu odmian realizmu magicznego. Proponowana w rozprawie koncepcja realizmu magicznego w polskich utworach dla młodych czytelników wskazuje: 1) na niewątpliwe pokrewieństwa z "dorosłymi" odmianami realizmu magicznego (europejskimi oraz iberoamerykańskimi), 2) na zależność od ogólnych przemian prozy realistycznej w XX wieku, 3) na wpływy tendencji z obcych literatur dziecięcych (np. angielskiej, niemieckiej czy skandynawskiej). M. Chrobak udowadnia tezę o silnych związkach tendencji realistyczno-magicznych w prozie dla dzieci i nastolatków ze współczesnymi przemianami baśni literackiej i fantastyki baśniowej, z którą realizm magiczny jest silnie spokrewniony. W teoretycznoliterackiej części pracy autorka zajmuje się najpierw kategorią cudowności - kluczową w proponowanym tu ujęciu realizmu magicznego, wskazuje na różnice między fantastyką a cudownością opierając się m.in. na badaniach francuskiej teoretyk I. Bessiere, bada następnie ewolucje dziecięco-młodzieżowej prozy realistycznej XIX i XX wieku. Rozważania poszerza o zagadnienia dotyczące psychologii i wyobraźni dziecka oraz psychologii odbioru dzieła literackiego.

W dalszej części rozprawy M. Chrobak analizuje utwory m.in. D. Terakowskiej, A. Osieckiej, M. Tomaszewskiej, Z. Domolewskiego, w których pojawiają się zjawiska realistyczno-magiczne. Na ich podstawie wyróżnia cechy znamienne dla "dziecięcej" odmiany realizmu magicznego, jak np. tworzenie jednolitej realistyczno-magicznej rzeczywistości w utworze, poszukiwanie magii w zwyczajnym otoczeniu, obecność motywów fantastycznych o trudnej do ustalenia kwalifikacji czy specyficzne techniki opisu codzienności, pokazywanej jakby była magiczna. Autorka rozprawy traktuje realizm magiczny w literaturze dla młodych czytelników jako jedną z odmian realizmu, obok baśniowego czy też poetyckiego. Przedstawia też różnice dzielące go od realizmu magicznego w literaturze dla dorosłych czytelników. Poszukując początków tendencji badaczka wskazuje na prozę z okresu międzywojnia, "ojców" zjawiska upatruje natomiast w twórcach niemieckiej baśni romantycznej.

The dissertation is concerned with the problem of magical realism in Polish literature for children, the question which has not been undertaken by native literature specialists so far. It presents the origins and the history of the movement called magical realism in European and Latin American prose of the twentieth century. The author emphasizes its artistic origins (rooted in painting), difficulties in defining the notion of magical realism, its connections with other artistic trends and also the existence of various types of magical realism. The concept of magical realism in Polish literary works for young readers which is adopted in the dissertation leads to the following conclusions: 1) there is an undoubtedly close relationship between this type of magical realism and its "adult" forms; 2) the type of magical realism analyzed is dependent on overall transitions in the realistic prose of the twentieth century; 3) the tendencies present in foregin literature for children had an effect on magical realism in Polish literature for children.

M.Chrobak confirms the thesis statement that there is a strong bias towards magical realism in the prose for children and teenagers, whitch is connected with modem transitions affecting literary tales and fairy-tale fiction, to whom magical realism is closely related. In the part of the paper dealing with literary theory the author concentrates on the category of wonderment - the key one in the adopted approach to magical realism, focuses on the differences between fantasy and wonderment, which is based on the research by I. Bessiere, a French theorist, and finally she analyses the evolution in the nineteenth and twentieth century realistic prose for children and teenagers. The analysis is broadened to cover the question related to psychology, children's imagination and the psychology of literary reception. Further in the dissertation M. Chrobak analyses works by various authors, e.g. D. Terakowska, A. Osiecka, M. Tomaszewska, Z. Domolewski, who included magical and realistic phenomena in their fiction. On these grounds she distinguishes the features typical for children's type of magical realism such as creating a uniform magical reality, looking for magic in ordinary surroundings, the presence of fantastic motives difficult to categorize and specific techniques for describing everyday life when shown as if it was magical. The author of the dissertation approaches magical realism in the literature for young readers as a variation of realism beside the fairy-tale or poetic type. She also shows how different it is in comparison with magical realism in literature for adult readers. Her research into the origins of the literary movement leads M.Chrobak to the conclusion that magical realism in children's fiction dates back to the prose of the period between the two World Wars. As for "the forefathers" of the phenomenon, she sees them in the writers of German romantic tale.
