In the sands of the Dunajec bank black streaks of ilmenite are known to occur. A sample of sand taken from the
river bed in Czorsztyn showed a general content of ilmenite of 2,05-2,12% b.w. In the sand granulation of 1,0
to 0,2 mm the entire amount of ilm enite was 93%.
The ilmenite of that river alluvial deposit takes its origin from the Tatra crystal store, in its greater quantity
deriving rather from the metamorphic formations of the West Tatra than from the depth rocks of the High Tatra.
Ilmenite sand was exploited in the XVIII and XIX centuries, ilmenite being washed aut from sands in Sromowce,
Czerwony Klasztor, and used for drying written matter.
