Thirty male white mice (Mus musculus L.) were used for the experiments. To determine the average norm of the
morphotic elements of the blood, control examinations were carried out on ten individuals.
The changes occurring in the structure of the morphotic elements of the blood were examined, as well as the
changes in the haemoglobin content in the white mouse caused by adding lactose to their food.
It was found that long-continued administration of lactose in the food of mice causes quantitative changes in the
morphotic elements of their blood, in the haemoglobin content, and in the weight of their bodies. The changes
affecting the erythrocytes count and the blood Hb content are characterized by a marked tendency to a rise in
these values, while the leukocyte count and the body weight decrease. No distinct changes affecting the index were
found. The greatest changes were observed in Group I, series II in relation to all values. The changes caused by
lactose in the state of the peripheral blood are saatistically significant.
