Abstract
The article is part of a major whole devoted to the agglomeration processes of industry on the periphery of the Upper-Silesian Industrial Region, and its production connections. In the article the author, after a brief introduction, presents the role of the raw materials base, of rail transport, and of capital expenditure as the principal factors of localization of industry and of its development in the area surrounding the Upper-Silesian Industrial Region. The author attributes a special role to the raw materials base, distinguishing genetically developing regions which owe their development to the working of raw materials, and regions where the processing industries prevail. Among the raw materials the most important part in the agglomeration processes of industry in the area under discussion, was played by coal, zinc, lead, and iron cres, and by mineral raw materials. Transport, as the next localization factor was examined by the author in the aspect of its density and its modernizing trend: he dealt also with the quantitative connections between the length of the railway tracts and the system of side-trackc, which in the discussed area are three times longer than the national railway tract network, and, on the other hand, the localization of industrial works and factories. The last factor of localization, discussed in the article, consisted of the capital expenditure made by the planned-economy system, the index for which was the newly-allocated value of machinery and equipment in the years 1945-1965. The industry in this area is highly privileged as regards allocations and capital expenditure. This has found expression in the large share (as much as 71%) of the newly-allocated funds for machinery and equipment within the over-all value of capital expenditure after 1945. The article winds up with conclusions of general nature.
