In her article the author analyses the trends observed in the structure of employment and schooling of the young
villagers, as against the actual labour demand from the Sulphur Works and other local labour markets in the Sulphur
Region. She brings to light the connections between the intensity of employment and educational trends and socio-
professional structure of the families the young village men and girls come from. Schooling and employment processes
are also discussed under the angle of the young villagers’ emigration to towns, their migrations on rural grounds
and their daily commutations to work. Research on the influence of the agricultural and non-agricultural labour
markets upon the professional activities and the migrations of the young men and women in search of work has shown
them to be well-settled in the rural environment. However, the growing demand for skilled man power stimulates and
prompts the process of professional training among the young people. The changes brought about in this field by the
presence of the Sulphur Works manifest themselves by promoting new professional interests and specializations and
exerting arestraining effect upon emigration outside the region under discussion.
