dc.description.abstract | Henryk Rowid (until 1909 Naftali Kanarek) was born in Rzeszów to a Jewish family.
After he learned his teaching profession in Rzeszów, he started working at the Baron de
Hirsch Foundation Jewish schools in Rawa Ruska, Tarnów and Kraków. Between 1905
and 1909, he studied at the Philosophy Department of the Jagiellonian University. During
this period, he underwent a substantial change of personality. He changed his name
and accepted the Christian faith. He became a supporter of the Jewish enlightenment
and the participation of Jews in social life. Rowid, who embraced the ideas of the New
Education movement, was also the co-founder of the teachers’ professional movement in Galicia. | pl_PL |
