Abstract

The paper deals with the problem of the reception of Dostoyevsky’s novel The Idiot in Russian literature, the problem of the direct influence of tradition as well as opposition to it. The author of the paper analyses on the one hand the notes in Olesha’s diary made during the writer’s work on the staging of The Idiot; on the other hand — Olesha’s play itself, based on the motives of Dostoyevsky’s novel.
