Z problematyki kultury u Wacława Nałkowskiego

Abstract

The paper is an attempt to specify W. Nałkowski’s conception of culture as to define the relations of this conception to the Marxist-Leninist views on the problem in question. W. Nałkowski underlines on the one hand the close connexion between man and nature, but on the other hand he points out the human capacity to exceed these connexions and to create a new environment which satisfies man's spiritual demands and cannot be reduced to the world of nature. This activity and its results make both culture and civilization. Man in his cultural activity depends upon a complex of social conditions connected with those dictated by nature. Therefore W. Nałkowski has always stressed the importance of social analysis in the investigation of cultural phenomena. The latter, according to him, are determined historically and socially as to both their genesis and functions. The paper contains some opinions about important analogies and ideological relationship between W. Nalkowski’s thought and Marxism in the domain of the conception of culture.
