Stefan Czarnowski wobec kultury proletariatu

Abstract

A considerable part of the Leftist intelligentsia in Poland between the two World Wars participated in a discussion of proletarian culture. Among these opinions, those formulated by Julian Brun, Stefan Rudniański and Stefan Czarnowski were the most productive theoretically. According to Stefan Czarnowski, proletariat creates a special culture of its own for, as a class of society, it is able to create values. The chief values of proletarian culture are work and human mass; they result in moral and other values. A. capacity to create values comes from the nature of industrial labour. There is a discrepancy between the values of proletarian culture and the social order they come into existence in. This discrepancy may be overcome thanks to a social revolution. Therefore, in Czarnowski’s opinion, proletarian culture is the culture of the future.
