The article attempts to gather and describe selected thematic vocabulary in Polish phraseology. It is constructed
by biblical expressions whose main lexical component is the name of an animal. The scope of the presented material
is delimited by ten key names of animals, which represent the biblical fauna: cielec, jeleń, kozioł, lew, owca,
pies, świnia, wąż, wielbłąd and wilk. Apart from collecting the data, the objective was to describe their
contemporary semantic status, connotative properties and derivational capabilities in the present-day Polish.
