The article explores a fragment of linguistic reality of Poles in Lithuania, namely acquiring general Polish language competence by the Polish youth at the school age, and in consequence deleting regionalisms. The target group for the study were 56 pupils of the Adam Mickiewicz Polish school in Vilnius aged 7 (20 pupils), 10(19 pupils) and 18(17 pupils). On the basis of the collected data the way of the Polish youth’s language improvement can be observed and the young people tend to transfer from the regional dialect (represented by the first two target groups) to second language acquisition - official, standard variety of Polish (the third examined group). A huge influence of school education is also noted.en_EN
