Nature fulfils a special function in Orkan’s novels. The writer, while creating the images of the Gorce landscape,
frequently uses floral motifs. The vegetable vocabulary of three Władysław Orkan’s novels is the subject matter of
the present analysis, namely: W roztokach (1900), Pomór (1910) and Drzewiej (1912). The analysed names are the
names of trees, bushes, crop plants and plants of fields and forests.
The author pays special attention to those names, which were taken from the Gorce dialect by the writer. The names
of trees such as spruce called smerek and fir called jedla, which are typical trees in the mountain environment,
enjoy the highest frequency of occurrence.
