On the basis of I. Krasicki’s letters it is possible to reconstruct the titles with which girls, maidens, mothers and wives (directly and through written reference) were addressed in the family, as contrasted with forms of addressing ladies outside of the family and in Pan Podstoli. The analysis includes letters, in which the poet addressed only ladies from the aristocracy (the family lived in Dubieck near Przemyśl), and even so the forms prove very diverse. The factors responsible for opposite structures and phrases comprise direct contact (a letter to the lady), indirect contact (a letter about the lady); age of the addressees, festive and ordinary occasions for letter writing, and position of the recipient in the family (family relation) / outside of the family (official contact). Variety of forms of address depend to a large extent on the psychological mood of the sender and his particular poetic gifts, as well as the ease of building conceit with a great sense of humour and conventional politeness and gallantry.en_EN
