dc.description.abstractNowadays, the operation in the area of information has become the key element of military conflicts. Gaining information advantage with use of modern ICT is defined as information warfare. The aim of the paper is to present the examples of networkcentric and terroristic operations in which information warfare is the supportive element. The paper covers also the issue of Russian concept of information war. Information warfare as the element of conflicts has changed their nature and the conditions of the security environment. Every of the described conflicts involved civilians as the tool. Together with the information civilians has become another strategic asset, target means of warfare and propaganda. Their mindset and wellbeing may determine the outcome of the operation. Thus, the society should be equipped with defensive mechanisms. This is responsibility of governments and institutions of education for security and defense.en_EN
