In the paper a group of words used in J.B. Zaleski’s poems was characterized in respect of word formation and semantic structure. The group includes words derived directly or indirectly from the noun ‘krasa’/’beauty’ and belonging to - numerous in Zaleski’s works - borderland localisms. Each lexical item was analyzed first of all as a constituent of a particular poetic context. The word family is represented by seven simple derivations (krasny, krasno, krasić, krasić się. kraśnieć, krasiwy, przekraśny) and three compound ones (krasnopióry, krasnopiórzec, różnokrasny). The poet introduces parallel forms like krasny/kraśny or krasno/ kraśno usually without any influence on semantic value. One may point to the poet’s neologisms: pokrasa and krasnopiórzec. Lexical items belonging to the described word-formation family have different semantic constituents: ‘czerwony’ (‘red’), ‘barwny’ (‘colourful’) and ‘piękny’ (‘beautiful’) and they are also sometimes characterized expressively. The analyzed words were used among other things in descriptions of the sky, large spaces, birds as well as nobleman’s or festive attire.en_EN
