The paper presents, by means of examples, different descriptions of -onym words (proper nouns) occurring in entries of dictionaries of the three mentioned in the title writers’ languages. In each of the dictionary under discussion the editors accept different rules of separating proper nouns from appellatives. The rules are not always consistent. Encyclopedic descriptions of denotats are met more often than information on the type of the proper noun (forename, surname, nickname, geographical name, ethnic name etc.) found in the text. In entry articles the term ‘proper name’ is used instead of the widely today used by onomasts term ‘proper noun’.en_EN
