The author discusses the problem of stress and quantity in Polabian. The fragmentary and imperfect recorded Polabian material makes their reconstruction very difficult. There are several different views on both these questions. The author examines them and tries to show that the Polabian language of the last period of its existence did not have proper quantity. Apart from full vowels and diphthongs it possessed reduced vowels but did not distinguish between long and short vowels. Reduction of vowels was dependent on stress. As far as the place of stress in Polabian is concerned the problem needs some further examination.en_EN
