Językowy obraz ziemi w powieści Wiesława Myśliwskiego Kamień na kamieniu

Abstract

The paper is an attempt to describe the image of the earth, i.e. a part of the linguistic image of the world included in W. Myśliwski's novel. The source of the description of the image of the earth that was recorded in the novel Kamień na kamieniu/A Stone On Another Stone is the meaning of the noun ziemia earth as well as syntactic compounds including the word in the work. The analysis of meanings of the noun ziemia earth showed that the image of the earth in the novel was created in five basic profiles: 1) the Earth as a planet; 2) the earth as a geographical sphere; 3) the earth as a soil, both a place where man works and his/her last resting-place; 4) the earth as a landed property that may be an object of donation, inheritance, trophy, trade, litigation; 5) the earth as a land. On the other hand syntactic compounds reveal features and value of the earth many a time shown by means of animalization and personification.
