The paper is regarded as a contribution to studies of expressive vocabulary in collections of regional and dialectal vocabulary of the 19th century. In this paper it was shown the part of the vocabulary the expressive character of which was confirmed either by the author of Słownik gwar polskich himself or by other research workers. The most interesting emotionally characterized material, most often with a negative tinge, contains (mostly) nominal names of people. Three groups of words are especially worthy of notice because of frequency: 1. names taking (psychical) features of personality or (physical) features of sb's look into account, 2. including words connected with ethnic and religious affiliation of the borderland community, 3. including names of relationship. Both an analysis of the material excerpted from Słownik gwar polskich and its comparison with an analogical one included in the paper by J. Kobylińska allow to notice that the mechanism of expressive vocabulary formation in dialects is similar.en_EN
