Studies were performed on two groups of soil localities from lower subalpine forest in Gorce National Park,
differing in terms of altitude, humus content, soil humidity and heavy metal content. The results are as follows:
1. The concentration of soil dipterous larvae is much higher in the group of localities at higher altitude and
containing more humus.
2. Family diversity is slightly higher in the group of localities situated at lower altitude.
3. Concentration and biomass of predaceous dipterous larvae from families Dolichopodi- dae, Rhagionidae and
Tabanidae are higher in localities situated at lower altitude.
4. The humus content in soil has a decisive influence on diversity of dipterous larvae groups, whereas the
contents of cadmium, chromium, nickel and lead do not.
