The article makes a comparison between the image of 1863 Resurrection in the novels by Józef Ignacy Kraszewski and artwork by Artur Grottger. Grottger inspirations were noticed in the novel entitled Dziecię Starego Miasta. The author proves that genetic dependencies are present in many other Kraszewski’s novels. They are visible in the portrait structure - angellike features, expression of suffering, mysticism and tragic pathos, which had been taken over by Kraszewski from Grottger. The art of portraying of the two creators has a connection with the 19th century science of physiognomy. Kraszewski’s novels and Grottger’s paintings have many themes in common taken by the writer from the series Polonia and Warszawa I.
