The contents of the article refer to unknown episodes of the Vilnius activity of the Reduta Theatre directed by Juliusz Osterwa. Source documents found in Vilnius, which had not been earlier used by theatre researchers, made it possible to enlarge our knowledge about Reduta during the period 1925-1930. Related facts refer to the profile of co-operation of the city authorities with the theatre managers, to actors’ everyday life, to programme policy. Reduta peculiar character of a travelling theatre was drawn attention to, and it was discussed how it fulfilled its culture-formative role in restoring Polish culture on the former lands of the Great Duchy of Lithuania and in creating its new image in the context of current social and educational expectations.en_EN
