Project, plan and utopia are three main ways in which the future and the presence are conneted with each other.
Project is the most basic. Deeply rooted in the thought, project gives rise to the purposefulness and hierarchy
in human life. Using Kant’s terms, project is transcendal and its next step - plan - is an empirically elaborated
way of organizing life.
There are a number of plans in our life: everyday plans, working, scientific plans and so on. However, for the
development of mankind the most important is the plan which includes general outline of the world and social
relations, i. e. utopia. Because of boundaries of human cognition, utopia is never completely realized.
Nevertheless, as a pattern it has at least two very fruitful aspects. Firstly, with the help of utopia every
state of knowlege, of social or technical organizations may be improved. Secondly, as a general pattern, utopia
gives a moral scope for all human activities.
