Referendum akcesyjne z 2003 r. Próba bilansu

Abstract

The accession referendum in 2003 was the third referendum in the history of the III Polish Republic. Preparations took place in very compound socio-political conditions with dramatic fall of public trust for the political elites, the government coalition collapse and corruption affairs with the involvement of politicians. Because of those reasons and (what is obvious) the historical meaning of nation's will stated in the referendum held on 6-7 June 2003, the voting drew the attention of observers and participants of the Polish public life. Other countries carefully followed the situation in Poland, because decision of the biggest nation entering the European Community could influence the whole integration process. The campaign was unusually varied and almost all of the most important personages who created Polish history in the last years, were involved. The final result of the referendum (attendance 58,85%, votes FOR 77,45%) was influenced by the stand of the church (especially proeuropean statement of John Paul II), two-day mode of voting and comprehensive character of the campaign.
