The author begins with the critical analysis of these sociological-and- literary expressions of a situation of
communication in the teaching of literature which construct its generalizing scheme, opposite to other
possibilities of reading, such as the situation of play, that of cultural advancement, that of a "love-affair
with a text", etc. He takes into consideration such an evolution of these attitudes towards the institutional
situation of school reading which leads from a relatively advantageous formula of "a situation of the associating
with literature" (S. Żółkiewski) to that of "a situation of the realization of the social role of a pupil" (W.
Dynak) which may be characterized in the negative and stresses in the first place the element of compulsion in
school reading. The author thinks that such notions subsequent to the historical-and-sociological looking at the
ways of the functioning of literary culture do not provide the theory of didactics with necessary support.
He proclaims himself in favour of the approach which differentiates both the description and typology of
situations of communication in school reading on the base of their empirical analysis in the microscale of the
field of didactic interactions. He presents preliminary proposals of such typologies which consider the extent of
the mediation and formalization of the contact between a consigner and a receiver of a literary work, the nature
of connections between the partners of a dialogue during a lesson, and a teacher's outlook as to different
educational values.
