Abstract

Presenting turbulent years of the birth and development of Polish military air force does not appear to be an easy task due to versatile and contradictory character of some sources that deal with the subject. The article discusses a range of interesting problems connected with the development of Polish military air force and it comprises essential data on the Polish aviation during the period from 1918 to 1939. It demonstrates particular stages of flying and ground crew training, reconstruction and modernisation of air force, number and training of the staff, and characterisation of equipment. An outline of conducted policy is also sketched with emphasis on the significance of people in key positions who had considerable influence on strategic decisions of fundamental importance. The text is an overview of facts of historic value related to the changes that took place in the air force of the Republic of Poland II.
