Research on the impact of early intervention with mentally handicapped children and their families has placed too much emphasis upon child development progress to the neglect of several important parental and environmental variables upon which the childs ultimate development depends. Differences in interaction patterns between mother – non-retarded and mother – retarded child dyads and the impact of interventions on mothers – retarded children interactions are showed through an analysis of studies carried out in the last ten years.en_EN
