The article presents the results obtained so far in the investigations of the development of temporal concepts of preschool age children. The research has shown that between the ages of 5 and 6 there increases the number of children who understand the meaning of the basic time concepts such as a week, a month, a year and the general concept of ’time’. For the growing number of children the range of meanings of the above mentioned concepts becomes enriched and differentiated. The said concepts become two- or multimeaningful for them. The extension of the range of meanings of the temporal concepts, acquired by the children of this age, develops on the one hand accordingly to the growing store of individual experiences of a child who becomes aware of the rhythm and cyclic character of events and is able to perceive them in the surrounding reality. On the other hand, the child’s awareness is the result of purposeful educational activities, aiming at pointing out to the child the variability of the world surrounding him/her and the regularity of the changes occurring there.en_EN
