Experimental research shows that dry air filters based on filter paper are marked by a considerable
change of characteristics, progressing with time of operation. With a stable air-stream
flowing through the filter, there is an increase in pressure loss, which means energy loss on
the filter, whereas with a stable difference of pressures, which forces the air flow, the stream
flowing through the filter diminishes.
A solution to this problem may be a filter which retains pollution throughout its interior,
consisting of a number of filtrating layers, whose density varies along the way of the dusted
air-stream flow. On the basis of filtration theory, it is possible to select the density of particular
layers in such a way that the amount of contaminants stopped by each layer is the same.
The article describes the results of experimental tests conducted on filters consisting of
five filtering layers. It presents the distribution of the retained pollution mass along the way of
the air-stream through the filter, in relation to the density of particular filtering layers.
