The author analysing a selection of Jerzy Pilch’s texts entitled Upadek człowieka pod Dworcem Centralnym (Man's
Fall at the Central Station) tries to catch the literary criticism motifs in the Vistula writer’s columns. The
article shows Pilch’s attitude towards the literary criticism and attempts at “smuggling” its fragments by the
author in columns written for an opinion-making weekly. Jerzy Pilch willingly presents his judging comments on
literary works that he had read. However, his opinions take the form of short commentaries given on an occasion or
upon referring to current or historical events. Columnist writer while entering the relation author - piece of work
- reader, most freąuently takes the stand of the latter. The language of his texts, in which pathetic and
colloąuial styles merge, proves that he writes in order to please the reader. The aim of the article was to show
the goal and manner of evoking many different texts and sketching the characters of famous authors in the writer’s
columns, who does not consider himself a critic.
