Abstract

Newer theoretical problems in autobiography of Polish writers are presented in the theoretical and the analytical plane. The theoretical issues include the problem of integration, identifying autobiography with novel and fiction in general, and separatism, acknowledging that distinction. The author takes an intermediary position, however, she notices a strong poetic tendency in “writing about oneself’, and particularly, appropriation of that area by fiction or essay. Hence the restriction of the distinctions of the broadly understood autobiography to the following: “ordinary” autobiography and the autobiography of people who write, classical and modern, referential and literary, written from the “now” perspective (diary), and reminiscing (autobiography in the narrow sense, and memoirs). The analysis of autobiographical texts from recent years is limited only to selected modern problems, such as: the question of the Other, the “unreality of the past”, the diary as a life practice, the adjective “intimate” as a distinctive marker of a diary - an autobiographical form from a daily newspaper; the problem of personal identity, memoirs and the doubts as to the possibility of isolating that form. The topics of auto-fiction and blogs have been touched upon.
