Abstract

The author made an attempt at working out an identification method for the text “Arcadia” by Elżbieta Drużbacka. She implemented a group of linguistic means including: 1. contrastive analysis of manuscripts of the same text implemented to establish the original, 2. content analysis of Drużbacka’s works, among others “Ofiara Bogu”, “Żale nad córą”, “Do wnuka”, which enabled auto-identification conducted by the author herself, 3. historical and language analysis of Drużbacka’s output; both national and foreign, conducted in order to determine her individual style, 4. idiolect analysis implemented to determine the links between the author’s residence and her lexis and phraseology, and 5. extra-linguistic and textual information. Multifaceted analysis of Elżbieta Drużbacka’s manuscripts and published texts enabled, on the one hand, establishing the link between biographical elements and their implementation in texts; on the other, it served the purpose of confirming the authenticity of the manuscript of “Arcadia” (15, II Ossolińscy Library) as the most probable primary text, the autograph with the author’s signature: “Elżbieta Drużbacka Autorka tey Historyi”.
