The article attempts to situate autobiographical writing within the space of ’’new communication” outlined by the media. Features of this kind of communication are determined by the increasing importance of theatrical character, staging and unique directing of own I, both at the encoding and decoding stage of a communicative act. The author tried to depict an autobiographical utterance within the theoretical model of the communicative strategy and ’’format” (known from television messages), highlighting the change in understanding both by the addresser and addressee - the relationship between the element of “truth” and “fiction”. Autobiography is authentic when it is ’’attractive” and is perceived as attractive by the recipient; in a parallel way to television ’’formats”, in whose Polish names there appears the particle “doku-“ (“docudrama”, “dokunowela” etc.). That fact has a considerable impact on the approach to autobiographical messages, situating them very clearly in the area of literature and not, as previously thought, in documentary studies.
