Abstract

Language is a reflection of thoughts and of the image of reality, as it is perceived by people. At the same time, it is a means of creating subjective images of reality and thus, to some extent, of creating reality. This assigns language a particular role, e.g. in education. The present article contains a critique of the (anti)educational function of the public sphere language – the language of politics, media, and typical social issues debates. The highlighted problems are: the language of politics used as a tool of social disintegration and deconstruction of the image of democratic state, and the language of the media used as a means of creating a pathological image of reality and of destroying the world of values and authorities. Another problem is imposing the language of politics on the sphere of education. It is the task of education to counteract this harmful influence and to restore the elementary functions of language: its cognitive and communicative roles.
