The paper belongs to a trend in a study of language of the youngest users of Polish and
its material basis consists of one child’s utterances recorded regularly by her parents who are
educated in Polish philology. Except for utterances of the girl that were recorded since she
was five years old, a wide situational context that attended her all-round development was
taken into account. The context that is the best known to her parents fulfills a very important
function in relevance theory which provides methodological bases for more detailed considerations.
The author’s purpose is to show what linguistic exertions and activities as well as means
are used by a child to participate efficiently in social life of his/her closest environment. An
analysis of a child’s utterances that includes different factors and situations determining all
his/her verbal and non-verbal behaviour is to give an answer to a question if any linguistic and
non-linguistic elements of redundancy appear in the process of getting transient competence,
the process which happens at an astonishing rate in the first years of human life, and if a child
is conscious of the special status of such elements.
