The Eastern Partnership is the first comprehensive initiative aimed at Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and
Ukraine that was introduced to the system of external affairs of the European Union. Its task is to work on rapprochement and
integration of the Eastern European and Southern Caucasian countries with the European Union. It brings a totally new quality to
the relations between the European Union and the above mentioned countries by means of an ongoing and gradual integration
of these countries and their societies with the European Union.
Fulfilling objectives of the Eastern Partnership will allow for the actual rapprochement of partner countries with the European
Union and, as a result, may make full integration easier in the future. In accordance with the European values, standards and
norms, co-operation is taking place in such fields as human rights, market economy, balanced development, good
management, energetic security and other. The Eastern Partnership also leads to further development and reinforcement of
human relationships as well as increasing co-operation in terms of science and culture.
To accomplish these ambitious goals, the Eastern Partnership is developed twofold. First, in bilateral dimension, it focuses on
strengthening relations of particular countries with the European Union. Second, in multilateral dimension, it refers to challenges
which are common for all partners.
