Eugeniusz Romer’s contribution to the development of Polish geography has been extensively
appreciated. Historians of geography emphasized however his contribution in the field
of physical geography and map making. Meanwhile, Romer’s human geographical concepts
seem to be no less original and valuable. One of the most popular ones is the geopolitical
controversy between Romer and Wacław Nałkowski concerning the individual character of
Polish lands. This broadly commented dispute has been showed as an example of logomachy.
On the other hand, the geopolitical concept of Romer, despite the passage of 60 years since
his death, should create the basis for a discussion concerning the international position of
Poland.
