The author of the article makes a claim that, beside forms like soap opera, the works of Katarzyna Grochola are the propaedeutics of femininity in the contemporary popular culture.
The traditional romance novel, which used to serve the purpose of cultural communication, has ceased to function successfully in the post-traditional society. Today’s medium of feminism is a “How to...” guidebook. This article situates Grochola’s prose within the framework of the guidebook culture; this is indicated by its rhetorical, oratory (the poetics of a letter), conversational and utilitarian character (the poetics of a therapeutic dialogue). Grochola’s writing is a kind of biblio(autho)therapy, and a guidebook, in the light of sociological investigations, is an exemplary identity narrative of the modern times.
