Abstract
Michael Ende’s (1929–1995) collection The School of Magic and other stories (Die Zauberschule und andere Geschichten) was published for the first time in Polish in 2010. The book comprises nineteen pieces which differ as far as their genre and target reader are concerned. Ende’s poems and short stories form a multi-layered entity with a consistent message. The writer presents the value of imagination and creativity as well as the power of human desires and the necessity of limiting them.
