The present article describes the scientific achievements of the researchers of the Pedagogical
Academy of Cracow in the field of broadly understood history of education. The analysed
works were published in years 1996–2000. It must be noted that the issues in history of
education, schools and upbringing enjoyed – as they also had earlier – great popularity, not
only strictly among the historians of education, or historians of other specializations, but also
among the researchers in the fields of pedagogy, library science, Polish language, philosophy
or sociology. Still the majority of publications were written by historians of education, the
academic employees of the Chair of History of Education. In sum, in recent years, among all
the employees of the Pedagogical Academy, 44 persons published articles, essays, and other
papers concerning history of education, which proves that the topic was popular and willingly
examined. It is worth mentioning that in the discussed years the research methodology
changed slightly, and that more and more often history of education was connected with
other disciplines, such as pedagogy, special pedagogy, comparative pedagogy, or European
education.
Particular paragraphs of the article focus on the achievements of scientists from all chairs
and institutes in which publications on history of education were written, including their
thematic scope.
