This article describes the results of a diagnostic research of preschool teachers concerning
their knowledge of First Aid. 300 teachers currently employed in the Małopolskie region
were tested.
The results of the research helped to identify a pattern for educating future teachers in the
area of First Aid. Three significant conclusions of the research are the following:
1. The level of First Aid knowledge and skills of the teachers surveyed is mostly unsatisfactory
and insufficient when it comes to providing first aid (including the children they look
after).
2. Current research shows that the reaction of most teachers, based on misinformation and
lack of training, is actually dangerous for those receiving aid.
3. Present standards of training do not provide teachers with sufficient knowledge or training
to teach their pupils the fundamentals of First Aid.
