The safety of nuclear power plants is a very contentious topic. In its content, this article contains
some major pros and cons of nuclear energy operating in the world. Drawbacks include
mainly negative externalities for natural environment, for example: economic consequences
after reactor accidents, storage of nuclear fuel, often inexperienced management of the
plant or danger of possible terrorist attacks. The most important, positive factor affecting
the prospect of growth of nuclear power is its economics – that is to say, to produce a large
quantity an electrical energy in short time and moreover lack of CO2 emission – the byproduct
is an emission of steam. Economic policy assumes that building nuclear power plants
should be based on the newest technology, which will ensure maximum safety of produced
an electrical energy. Countries have to ensure that situations similar to the one in Chernobyl
in 1986 will not happen again.
